The deadly futility of coal mining resurfaces in movies. Coal Miner's Daughter realistically portrays the deadly effects of coal mining. For the profit of only the few, the result is ruined and poisoned landscapes; ruined and poisoned life. Deadly coal mine explosions destroy families, as shown in the metaphorical blast in The Hunger Games, when the death of Katniss' father is seen blowing a hole into their home. Coal is a lose/lose proposition.

Here's an update from Power Past Coal and Climate Solutions:
Together we have generated an unprecedented 330,000+ comments about the coal export terminals proposed in Washington State. We couldn't have done it without you.
But that doesn't mean that our work to ensure a fair and full review of the impacts from coal export is done.
Last year, the WA Department of Ecology determined that they would require a broad evaluation of the impacts of the proposed Cherry Point coal export terminal. The state study will include air and water impacts from coal dust, the greenhouse gas pollution from burning the coal shipped through the terminal, as well as health impacts, marine traffic impacts, and rail traffic impacts beyond our state’s borders.
The decision to review all of the significant impacts from the proposed terminal at Cherry Point was supported by democracy in action – over 124,000 comments were submitted for Cherry Point alone, detailing concerns on the impacts to our health, our economy, and our climate future.
However, last week in the State Legislature, a joint work session by the Senate Environment and Economic Development committees criticized the state for doing a comprehensive study of the impacts from the proposed Cherry Point coal export terminal. We are concerned that we are likely to see bills or budget attacks this session aimed at narrowing the environmental review of coal ports and other harmful projects.
Email your state Senator today.

Pentagon Agency Orders and Stockpiles Potassium Iodide 2012, Doesn't Tell US
Potassium Iodide would help protect people and kids. Why is Pentagon agency stockpiling this, and Obama keeps saying there is no danger?

Potassium iodide keeps radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid gland and therefore it is commonly taken in the event of a severe nuclear emergency, such as the current Fukushima crisis.

Following the revelation that The Department of Health and Human Services has ordered 14 million doses of potassium iodide to be available by no later than the first of February, it is easy to see that the same federal government responsible for silently raising the allowable limits of radiation in the food supply and turning off key radiation counters positioned in the west coast may now silently be preparing for a future Fukushima meltdown.

"You should be taking Iodine all the time, whether it be Alex Jones nascent (nascent iodine is actually the best iodine to take) or Trophic iodine. Lots of people believe that government psychos in positions of power are planning to kill US off.

"The Ecologist reported on this unsubstantiated rumor which was then used as a source by ‘Gizmodo. The Ecologist has now changed their original report without any notice or explanation. Here’s the original ending: “The Turner Radio Network is advising people on the West Coast of North America to”prepare for the worst” in case a meltdown of the waste fuel is in fact commencing. No official warnings have been released on either side of the Pacific.”
"Here’s how it ends now: “According to a Fairewinds Energy Education posting on Facebook, the reactor is currently producing about 1 MW of heat, equivalent to 1,000 1KW electric fires, so enough to produce plenty of steam. This would provide the least worrying explanation for the steam, in that as the radioactivity continues decline so will the heat production and the volume of steam produced. If this explanation is correct, there is no reason expect any catastrophic outcome. However the steam is carrying considerable amounts of radiation into the atmosphere and represents an ongoing radiation hazard.”
